Group Angels
Seen throughout the Bible, angels have been represented in many different types of art over the centuries. As a group, we decided to attempt to touch on a variety of depictions of angels, both in paintings and in sculptures from diverse parts of Europe. Because angels are found everywhere, we wanted to do our best to give a broad spectrum of images and information. Our individual research papers also reflect this diverse approach to the topic of angels. We hope you will be able to learn as we share with you what we have discovered on this journey.
I am Jill Miser, a Geneva College sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering (That’s me on the right in the group photo). I decided to study in Rome because I wanted to experience Europe, and I am so glad I did because I have learned and grown much more than I could have imagined. I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and ballet; my favorite foods are pizza, cheddar cheese, and angel food cake. As we looked at many different depictions of angels, I was drawn to the paintings and sculptures of the annunciation. Therefore, my research paper explores the symbolism and significance of annunciation art.
My name is Philip Risher. I enjoy making snow angels.I am from Maryland about 15 minutes outside of Washington D.C. I am majoring in Business at Geneva College. I have been a Christian for 10 years now. Learning about angels has helped me deepin my walk with God and learn more about Jesus’ passion to die for me. For my paper I will be analyzing Bernini’s Angels on St. Angelo’s Bridge. There are ten angels, each have a different passion instrument that is related to the crucifixion.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, NV, I am a southwestern Italian girl who loves angel hair pasta. My name is Sarah Arata (far left in the photo) and I am a junior at Geneva College in Pittsburgh, PA. I am majoring in International Business and had the opportunity to develop my understanding of international culture by studying abroad in Rome, Italy this semester. While researching angels for our group project, I was intrigued by the idea of fallen angels; it is a topic that is usually skipped over in traditional Bible studies. In conclusion of my paper, I was encouraged by God’s power and unconditional love for me in protection against evil.
My name is Monica Miller, but at home people just call me an angel. I am a small town girl who wants to experience the world. I enjoy reading, dressing up, singing karaoke, and watching movies. As part of the angel research group I chose to focus on archangels for my research paper. In the paper I discuss the order of archangels and their specific duties. I focus on Raphael, Michael, and Gabriel in particular as examples and point out specific examples where they have interceded in individual’s lives or have acted for God’s purposes.
